Biography Bartlett, Charles (1860 - 1940)
Encouraged by Lawrence Alma Tadema, British-born Charles Bartlett started his study into the Royal Academy in London in 1883. His most unhappy period was after the death of his young wife and their newborn son in 1891. After that his life took a new turn, he remarried and eventually settled in Hawai'i in 1917. He made paintings, etchings, watercolours and a limited group of woodblock prints for Watanabe Shōzaburō. He died a successful artist in Hawai'i in 1940. |
