Biography Komura, Settai (1887 - 1940)
Komura Settai studied painting at the Japanese-style painting division of the Tokyo School of Fine arts, which he entered in 1904, and from which he graduated in 1908. He is mainly known for having copied old paintings and picture scrolls. From 1933 a number of his illustrations were turned into woodblock prints. The style of these prints were based on b/w drawings by Aubrey Beardsley and on the well-known colour woodblock prints by the 18th century artist Suzuki Harunobu. |
