Biography Fujita, Fumio (1933 - )

Fumio Fujita was born in Aichi in 1933. In 1955 he graduated at the oil painting division of the Musashino College of Fine Arts. In 1963 he started making moku-hanga (woodblock prints). In the last ten years his work has become in much demand. He had solo exhibitions in Tokyo in 1998, 1999 and 2000, and he has also exhibited at the CWAJ (College Women's Association of Japan), the most important annual exhibition of Japanese contemporary prints.
Trees, woods and landscapes form his main subject-matter. His landscapes are mostly reduced to the essentials of line and colour (without getting abstract), he has made many prints of white-bark trees and woods. He lives in Kanagawa.
