Biography Liubarsky, Pavel (1891 - 1968)

Born in Khabarovsk, Pavel Liubarsky (Павел Любарский) studied at an art school in Moscow; he was an avant-garde painter, graphic artist, poster designer and illustrator, active in the Futurist art group known as "Green Cat". He lived in Vladivostok between 1922 and 1927, before returning to Moscow.
His linocuts were exhibited in Tokyo and Osaka ca. 1920-22, at the first Russian Painting Exhibition in Japan (October 1920), and the Second Futurist Art Exhibition (October 1921). He contributed material to several Russian and Japanese art magazines in the early 1920s and may himself have visited Japan in 1921 or 1922. His linocuts were influential on Japanese Sōsaku Hanga printmakers such as Ono Tadashige, who collected his work.
