Biography Ogura, Yuki (1895 - 2000)
Born in Ōtsu, Ogura Yuki was educated as a schoolteacher, but in 1920 she became a student of Nihonga painter Yasuda Yukihiko. Already in 1926 one of her works was selected for an Inten exhibition, and in 1932 she became the first female member of the Japan Fine Arts Academy. She specialized in family scenes, still lifes and pictures of women. Especially in 1950s and 60s she painted many large portraits of friends and family members in the nude. She was still painting when already more than 100 years old, and eventually died in Kamakura at the ripe old age of 105. |
