Biography Asano, Takeji (1900 - 1999)

Takeji Asano is essentially a Kyoto-oriented artist. In 1929 he was active in the formation of the Kyoto S˘saku-Hangakai, and in 1930 he participated with Tokuriki Tomikichir˘ and Benji Asada in creating the series Creative prints of twelve months in new Kyoto. After the war he continued in the same vein, mainly creating prints (often self-carved and self-printed) showing sights in and around Kyoto. He was much admired as a carver, and his prints have an immediate appeal.
